A diner at a restaurant in North Florida brought together 10 employees to thank them for their efforts before leaving them a tip of $ 10,000, which is equivalent to more than 203 thousand Mexican pesos.
A diner at a North Florida restaurant brought the 10 employees together to thank them for their efforts before leaving them a $ 10,000 tip to divide among themselves.
The incident occurred Tuesday night when the man, his wife, and son finished dining at the Wahoo Seafood Grill restaurant, the Gainesville Sun newspaper reported.
Shawn Shepherd, the owner of the Wahoo, told the newspaper that he received a call that night from his employees, alerting him to the generous tip. His first reaction was suspicion.
Check your ID and the name on the back of your credit card, Shepherd advised the caller.
However, the restaurant’s point of sale system approved the transaction. Shepherd said he checked the next day to make sure the money was still there.
Watching these guys get their paycheck was almost as good as Christmas morning, Shepherd told the Sun.
He said very gratefully to the customer given that his employees have been loyal to the restaurant during the coronavirus pandemic.
Among the recipients of the tip was Ashley Green, who recently had her daughter ill.
She had a difficult month, unable to work. His daughter had been in and out of the hospital. It’s been a really stressful time for her, Shepherd said.
Shepherd said that when the COVID-19 pandemic started, he had to temporarily shut down Wahoo and lost about $ 30,000 in food.
I didn’t know anything about curbside deliveries, I didn’t know anything about home delivery and takeout. We were not prepared for that. We didn’t even have food containers to do it, Shepherd explained.
He stressed that the Florida Restaurant Association and the Alachua County Chamber of Commerce were enormously helpful in getting them emergency funds to pay their employees’ wages. Shepherd reopened the Wahoo in May.
He felt he owed his employees because they helped keep the restaurant afloat during that difficult time.
